VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

Open Counselling is a Primarily Person Centred Agency and the models of counselling used are Person Centred, CBT and Intergrative.

Open Counselling has a rigorous recruitment selection and CPD training opportunities.

We recruit In May – August each year, although we take applications all year round.

The process:-

1. Send in Counselling related CV.

2. Completion of an application form

3. Attendance of interview – stage one

4. Following the stage one interview, volunteers who are deemed to be at a stage of readiness will be invited to ‘stage two’ to complete a ‘taped therapeutic session’.

5. Anyone not invited to join ‘stage two’ will be offered face to face feedback.

6. A final decision by Open Counselling will be made.

7. All counsellors at Open Counselling are provided with clinical supervision and on-going developmental training.

8. All counsellors undergo an enhanced Police check.

Open Counselling offers placement opportunities to final year students training on accredited courses, and honorary qualified counsellors seeking hours towards accreditation.

You will need to be CRB checked at enhanced level.

If you are still in training you will need to be in personal therapy.

At the moment we recieve client referrals for people under 16 and adults, This offers you a valuable opportunity to gain experience counselling adults and young people with various issues.

Open Counselling recieves between 1 and 15 referrals per week and can therefore guarantee the client work you need in order to qualify.

No Volunteer will be pressured by Open Counselling to take clients which do not count towards thier qualification.

Open Counselling will offer regular supervision with an accredited supervisior, we will also provide internal support through the Managing Director and Lead Counsellor who will arrange to meet you for 30minutes per fortnight, at times convenient to you around your client work with Open Counselling.

Open Counselling also offers volunteers a library of limited counselling related books as a resource to help research and study. There is a small fee to borrow books and loss of any book will require reimbursement to Open Counselling.

The list of books is available upon contacting us.  The book list will continually increase.
